What is a Honda protection package on a dealer quote, and do you have to pay for it?

It can mean two different things: Honda's own accessory packages of real parts such as floor mats and splash guards, or a dealer's paint and fabric protection plan.

What it is

Two kinds of line carry "protection" in the name on Honda quotes. Honda's All Season Protection Packages are bundles of genuine Honda parts, listed with an MSRP on Honda's own Build & Price site. "Appearance Protection" is a name providers such as PermaPlate use for paint and fabric sealant plans; the line's name alone does not say what it covers or who provides it, and it is not one of the protection products American Honda Finance lists. Honda Care, Honda's vehicle service contract, is a different thing again: it covers mechanical and electrical repairs, not paint or fabric.

Honda All Season Protection Pkg

Bundles of real Honda parts listed under Accessory Packages on Honda's Build & Price site. On a 2026 Civic Sedan LX, All-Season Protection Package I is the All-Season Floor Mats, Splash Guard Set and Trunk Tray for $470 MSRP. On a 2027 CR-V LX, Package I (splash guards, floor mats, cargo tray) is $474, Package II (floor mats, cargo tray, wheel locks) is $414, and a Protection Package (splash guards, cargo tray, chrome wheel locks) is $345. Door edge guards are $130 on both. Honda's page says prices are MSRP only, installation is not included, dealer prices may vary, and genuine accessories installed when the car is bought carry a 3-year, 36,000-mile limited warranty. Contents and prices differ by model and year.

Appearance Protection

A line often printed with a term such as "3 Yr". Appearance Protection is a name providers such as PermaPlate use for paint and fabric sealant plans, but the line's name alone does not say what it covers or who provides it. It is not among the US protection products American Honda Finance lists (among them service contracts, maintenance, GAP, windshield, key, dent, and tire and wheel), and it is not Honda Care, which is Honda's service contract for mechanical and electrical repairs.

What buyers are charged

Appearance Protection

  • On a 2026 Honda Passport quote a buyer shared with us: $749

Can the dealer require it?

The FTC's September 2026 guidance for dealers says an optional add-on can't be presented as required, and that includes saying it is already installed. If a dealer requires it, its price belongs in the advertised price. FTC: Automobile Industry Pricing Transparency: FAQs (Sep 2026)

Honest take

Can make sense when

  • If the line is Honda's accessory package of parts you want, at a price close to Honda's MSRP plus a fair installation charge.

Worth skipping when

  • If you cannot tell which kind of package the line is: ask whether it is Honda parts or a sealant plan before you decide.

Honda All Season Protection Pkg

Can make sense when

  • If you want the parts in it (floor mats, splash guards, a cargo or trunk tray) and the price is near Honda's MSRP plus installation.

Worth skipping when

  • If the price is far above Honda's MSRP for the same package on your model; Honda's page says dealer prices may vary.
  • If you already have mats or a tray you plan to use, since the package is those parts.

Appearance Protection

Can make sense when

  • If it is already applied and the dealer removes its price, you pay nothing for it.

Worth skipping when

  • If you cannot find out who provides it and what its terms are, since the line's name does not say and it is not one of American Honda Finance's listed protection products.
  • If fabric protection is part of it: Consumer Reports advises declining fabric protectant as a dealer add-on.

What to say at the dealership

  • “Is this package Honda accessories or a sealant plan? Can you show me what's in it?”
  • “Honda lists this accessory package at its MSRP. Can you match that, plus a fair installation charge?”
  • “Is the Appearance Protection required to buy the car, or can you remove it and its price?”

Frequently asked questions

What is the Honda All Season Protection Package?
A bundle of genuine Honda parts. On a 2026 Civic Sedan LX it is All-Season Floor Mats, a Splash Guard Set and a Trunk Tray for $470 MSRP, installation not included. On a 2027 CR-V LX the packages run $345 to $474.
Is Appearance Protection on a Honda quote made by Honda?
Not as far as we could find. American Honda Finance's list of US protection products includes no paint or fabric appearance product, and the line's name does not say who provides it. Ask the dealership for the provider and the written terms.
Is Honda Care the same as a protection package?
No. Honda Care is Honda's vehicle service contract, covering mechanical and electrical repairs, not paint, fabric or accessories.
Can a Honda dealer require a protection package?
Honda's own site lists its accessory packages separately, each with its own MSRP. The FTC's September 2026 guidance for dealers says presenting an optional add-on as required, including by saying it is installed and cannot be removed, is not allowed.
