When manufacturers actually call for it
Intervals vary widely. Many schedules only inspect differential fluid under normal use and replace it for towing or severe use (Toyota, Nissan, Subaru), Honda's Ridgeline replaces it through the Maintenance Minder, and Ford's 2020 F-150 says axle fluid changes are not required unless there is a leak or submersion. Front-wheel-drive cars often have nothing to service.
